In Gallipoli, housed in the subsoil of Palazzo Granafei, among the narrow streets of the historic centre, one of the 35 completely renovated underground oil mills from the 1600s can be visited. They extend underground for about 200 square meters, below the D'Acugna and Grassi palaces which face each other on Via Antonietta De Pace. They are owned by the Gallipoli Nostra Association which in 1988 completely restored them and opened them to public use. Inside, some Calabrian-style presses (with two headstocks) have been rebuilt on 17th-century models. On the other hand, a Genoese-style press (with a single head) and some presses from the 19th century completely original.
