Description

The numerous material testimonies of a history so rich in contents and meanings are today exhibited in the sepulchral basements of the Cathedral of Ugento where they are revived today, after the recovery of the rooms used in the seventeenth century as a burial place, in a context full of meanings and saturated with a sacred and enthralling atmosphere. The visitor is welcomed right from the entrance by silvery chalices, parchment missals, statues of saints made with extreme skill by Salento papier-mâché makers, canvases of the numerous bishops who succeeded at the head of the diocese, thus traveling on a journey into spirituality which also takes the form in the precious cult artifacts of a diocese in  the southern part of Salento.
