A look at the past to understand the future is the motto of the Apulia Retrocomputing Volunteer Organization - OdV, which has been engaged for a decade in research work aimed at maintaining the memory of the technological development process which has profoundly changed the life of our society. Faithful to this motto, on Saturday 14 January we will be present for the fourth time at the "Medi" Institute in Galatone (LE) (www.iissmedi.it).
Inside the Institute there will be an exhibition of vintage computers and consoles, all strictly functional, belonging to the period between the end of the seventies and the nineties of the last century.
Since 2013, Apulia Retrocomputing, active in the sector of recovering and safeguarding historical information technology and electronics, has been organizing exhibitions and cultural events. It boasts a five-year agreement with the Department of Computer Science of the University of Bari, a strategic partnership withBari Technological Pole (www.panettipitagora.gov.it). It is also the technical partner of the microatena project (www.microatena.it) aimed at digitizing paper supports of historical importance in the field of electronics and information technology. He collaborates in the creation of the Vintage Computer Festival Italia (www.vintagecomputerclubitalia.it). For three years, the association has set up an operational headquarters in Bari at Brigata Street and Division Bari n.1/13 where cultural events and activities connected to its laboratory are regularly held and, upon request, school visits or private visits are organized.
The Association, having its own collection of hardware, software and paper material, constantly fed by donations from private individuals and public bodies, aims to create the first Museum of Computer Science and Electronics in Puglia, which will be managed by a Foundation. In the laboratory, vintage computers are restored and the digital preservation of the content of the storage media used in computer systems of the 70s, 80s and 90s is carried out.
The ISS "Medi" is located in Galatone in Via A. Scorrano n.6 and for the occasion will remain open to the public continuously from 8.00 to 13.30 and from 16:00 to 19:00.
