Piazza Umberto I, 70121 Bari BA
11 June 1905
The monument to King Umberto I is the only Apulian example of an equestrian statue dedicated to a sovereign. Work of the sculptor from Molfetta Cifariello, it was inaugurated in 1905, in memory of the King assassinated in Monza on 29 of July 1900, by the hand of an anarchist.
On 11 June 1905 the city of Bari woke up to the sound of numerous bands that walked its streets inviting citizens to flock into the gardens of the University to attend the inauguration of the monument of Umberto I. The royals took part in the particular ceremony, Vittorio Emanuele III with his wife, welcomed with the highest honors by the mayor Paolo Lembo.
